CHICAGO, IL – All Dr. Rajesh Shah wanted to do was practice neurosurgery.  However, after four long years of medical school, seven hellish years of residence, and two mind-numbing years of fellowship, it was the application to practice medicine in the state he was moving to that did him in.

“Is it ironic I subluxed a vertebrae carrying this deceased neurosurgeon?”

The six-month ordeal consisted of endless bureaucratic red tape and stress of trying to get everything together simply proved too much and he burst an aneurysm in his brain.

Per his wife: “It was nonstop.  He was on the phone every day with this department and that department from his medical school, from his residency, from his fellowship.  He had to drive to the middle of nowhere to get fingerprinting done.  Then things started getting lost in the mail.  So more requests had to be filled out.  That application was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

When contacted for a response, a spokesperson for medical board had this to say:

“We feel for the plight of Dr. Shah.  Honestly our outdated system of relying on paper forms should be replaced by a single computer manned by a robot, but we’re unionized, and that’s that.  As a token gesture though, we’ve seen fit to expedite his medical license.  He should receive it in the next 8 to 12 weeks.”
