ATLANTA, GA – A growing trend is occurring among children across the nation: the rejection of vaccines. It has been well documented that some parents have rejected vaccinations because of a very powerful fear-mongering machine that holds no scientific evidence.
85% of the respondents gave a resounding “No.” “Critics say there still is a large portion of people who are pro-vaccine, but the other 15% of the surveys in the study we received just had a bunch of scribbling all over the page with crayons. I think it’s safe to say not one person in this key demographic was pro-vaccine.”
This recent data is concerning scientists and pediatricians all across the U.S. “This is the age group [0-9 years of age] that vaccines make the most difference,” Dr. Hansen, a local pediatrician told reporters. “If they are born anti-vaccine, it may be too late to change their minds once they are older.”
When the researchers took a small group of 0-9 year-olds and read them just a few scientific papers of the thousands available supporting safe vaccines, it made no difference. Dr. Landship stated: “Even giving these people all the evidence out there, not one changed their mind. The only way we were successful is if it was their first vaccination and we offered a lot of ice cream and candy in return.”
So I could be wrong but it doesn’t sound like u would be open to hearing my reasons why I don’t take the flu vaccine?
Yeah. I mean, it’s just the flu, right? What possible harm could come? Oh, that’s right… Severe morbidity (extended hospital stays, chest tubes and invasive lines for influenza-associated pneumonia, need for ventilator support) up to and including DEATH!!!
No Pam… no.
Love it Lizzy!
And that is part of this exercise– thanks for being so kind!
Pam… I enjoy being able to talk to people who have actually done some homework on the subject instead of blindly believing things they’ve heard so thank you :)
Thanks Marina!
And Amy, I’d like to thank you again for such a civilized discussion from an opposing viewpoint! This is actually a new exercise for me ( engaging in a conversation where I would be the minority in my opinion) It was such a positive experience!
Thanks
Nice conversation, ladies. Pam, I’m Of The Same School Of Thought, btw. It’s nice to see a pleasant discussion and understanding of a position. Amy, you’re right…the scare tactics and all or none philosophy do little to help the cause.
You’ve been clear, polite and gracious– I couldn’t ask for anything more! Thank you!!!!
You haven’t. Have I?
I hear you but I’ve done my part by researching the vaccines and logically and scientifically based my conclusions on all the information. Have I, any way been, disrespectful or unreasonable in our discussion?
I’m sorry that you feel that way but the lack of any logical proven evidence that vaccines do more harm than good and more disturbingly the blatant misinformation and scare tactics that some anti-vaxers spread do not help. I am deeply disturbed that a deadly disease that was eradicated in our country 15 years ago is back in full force. We as a society are doing our children a major disservice by allowing this movement to put them at risk.
Well it feels like it— and that’s why I stepped into the “line of fire” — Noone had mentioned the camp that I’m from—>selective immunizations. It was an ” all in” or ” all against” conversation and I wanted to share my stance.
If those are the only two vaccines that you are choosing not to give I wouldn’t personally think of myself as being on the “other side”.
Currently influenzal & Gargisal and when others come to the market I’ll have to look at all the risks and benefits of those as well
Still lost. You say the “other side”, which implies that you are anti vaccine since clearly he is referring to anti-vaxers. To clarify, you say you are okay with basic vaccines… so which vaccines are you against exactly?
The picture and comment that Aaron Shiloh posted but I wouldn’t use the word “idiot”.
I am unsure what “experience” you are referring to.
Coming from the “other side”– I’ve had the same experience and I struggle to keep an open logical mind.
Gotcha –
Eileen, I’m not opposed to the basic vaccines.
Also, as I looked at the risks and benefits of vaccines given in early adolescents & adulthood -there were a few studies that I couldn’t ignore. I had to take a logical look at them and I form conclusions.
Thanks
‘Make a decision that is best for our kids and ourselves’ – with those refusing the MMR, they are ‘deciding ‘ for everyone else they meet. It is extremely contagious – lingers in a room up to 2 hours after the infected person left, and there are people too young or too immunocompromised to get the vaccine – if they get exposed – 90% chance they get it. You are contagious well before the rash comes. So please be mindful.
Adults need to keep up with their vaccines too. There’s a reason why tetanus boosters are recommended every 10 years.
I don’t believe that Gardasil or Hep B should be required for school attendance.
At one time, it was not uncommon for parents to tell children, “If you don’t behave, you’re going to the doctor and getting a shot!” Nice – your kid is going to be afraid of the doctor, and idle threats are worthless anyway.
I didn’t have kids, but I’ve had cats, and they sound a lot like my fur children! <3
My friend’s 8-year-old daughter brought a permission slip home from school for flu shots, and said, “Mommy, I do not want you to sign this!” LOL
This what arguing with an antivaxxer is like
chicken pox three tomes here and shingles :( yikes
baahaaa
Thanks for the info but as for all the flu vaccines — we’ll have to just agree to disagree
My kid is six and even he knows that medicine makes him better. He understands why he gets vaccines. He does not protest at the pediatrician’s office. Educated parents = educated kids.
Scott King Seidts – LMAO
I lol’d
And cold sores and Bell’s palsy. All the same virus. Think again
I had chickenpox twice. Back to square 1
Well, shit…
One option would be to tell anyone electing to not get vaccinated “that is fine. This is a one time offer. If there is an outbreak it will be illegal to give you or your child vaccine. You will all be quarantined .
You may be eligible for diluted homeopathic medication doses .
Please sign here.

I’m glad we have more vaccines. It means we can protect our kids from more stuff. It’s a lot of pokes, but there are fewer antigens in the whole vaccine schedule than there was in ONE polio vaccine in the 80s. Or one handful of dirt for that matter.
Vaccinate your kids! Nuff said!
Sandy Ford-Fernandez yesssss
Or they bring them in with said fever, unmedicated because “I wanted to show you” or “See! Look how high it is! I didn’t want it to be back to normal by the time we got here”… Nice. Let your child suffer so we can see the fever. Great parenting!

They know the boogie man is out to get them!
I’d like to step out into the line of fire to say that not all of us are 100% against all vaccines. I was diligent about getting my kids basic vaccines but when I saw the steady increase I asked myself “why?” So actually despite my oldest getting all her vaccines, no one else will get chicken pox from her because she had chickenpox before the vaccine came out. And that’s permanent –not so from the vaccines. To be fully informed of all consequences that occur prior to a procedure or surgery the physician explains the game of benefits and risks with the patient and family. Then they can make the best informed decision because they have AL the info/ both sides of the story. Let’s all do our homework, make the best decision for our kids and ourselves and respect each other
Thanks
As a nurse, I have witnessed more violent protest, in the form of attempted biting, use of fists to beat at my arms, and kicking of legs to try to prevent me from administering vaccines. Some of these “anti-vaxers” can be absusive!!

This is perfect!
Hilarious!!!!
At least these children antivaxxers make more sense than adult antivaxxers
I am terrified for the world when these kids turn into “adults”!!!!!
Joann Kim so appropriate with your latest status!
I love the ones who’ve said they’ve done their “research.” Google does not an expert make. Or even better, the ones who shriek about, “If your child is vaccinated, why are you worried about them being exposed!?”
We actually had one mom hand the phone to her kid to the nurse on the line so she could try and convince a kid to take Motrin for a high fever. I think the kid was like 7. SMH
These are the same parents who do not give their children ibuprofen for the “105 degree fever at home” because …”when I try to give them the medicine they say no.”
Our country is doomed!!
As a pediatrician, I have witnessed all kinds of make shift protests right there in the room usually involving attempts to urinate right on me or leave a ‘present’ in the diaper when I need to check femoral pulses.
It seems that the antivaxxers, of whatever chronological age, have the mind and reasoning capacity of the average 0-9 year old.
this can all be traced back to spongebob squarepants saying his kid got autism from his MMR.
