In the most recent installment of Fashion Police: Hospital Edition, host Kathy Griffin along with commentators Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, and special guest Jennifer Lawrence, discussed and debated the fanny pack for all medical providers.

Hospital Edition has been a new smash hit, with a unanimous “Thumbs Up” and “Best Look of the Week” for designer surgical gowns by Michael Kors and a mixed review of quirky socks with scrubs.

Long acknowledged is the functionality of having a pouch around your waist with all the tools for the day, and some have forecasted they would make a strong retro comeback.  But the question remains, what does Fashion Police say about fanny packs in the hospital?  Can it be done fashionably?

Dr. Nathan Chadwicks, a neurologist with lots of items to carry around, asserts, “the fanny pack is a brilliant solution to keep the necessary tools at hand.”  Dr. Chadwicks has struggled with pocket-filled droopy pants, overheating in a pocket-filled white coat, and not having his reflex hammer, pins, stethoscope, keys, gum, ChapStick, yesterday’s list, and morning snack available 100% of the time.  “Finally I have solved the problem without getting a man purse!” he writes to Fashion Police in support of his fanny pack.  “I think I’m setting a trend!”  Guest commentator Jennifer Lawrence pointed out that he would be the first neurologist in history to set a fashion trend if this were true.

Medical students have always been a strong advocate for the fanny pack as they are expected to carry a stockroom full of supplies and dressings.  Mary Smarte, a MS3 at Johns Hopkins, tweets to Fashion Police, “I wore a really nice Tory Burch fanny pack last week to carry everything I was supposed to, but the residents made fun of me and forced me go back to pocket stuffing.”  Her cry out to Fashion Police is simple: “Can you help support fanny packs in the hospital?!?”

Unfortunately for Mary Smarte and Dr. Chadwick, Fashion Police has put out a warrant out for their arrest.

“I get that it’s convenient, but it’s like they want to be a herd of kangaroos rounding in the hospital, stashing junk in their pouch,” joked Kathy Griffin.  Kelly Osbourne added that “they are doing it totally wrong, you are supposed to put your junk in a box, not in a pack.”  She then added some advice: “Take a lesson in cool from Justin Timberlake.  He might have worn jean on jean at one point in his life, but he will never be seen with a fanny pack.”

The most reasonable assessment came from Giuliana Rancic who pleaded, “Come on, guys, look in the mirror!  You don’t look cool!  Dr. McDreamy would NEVER wear a fanny pack!”

The verdict is in, and it’s a big thumbs down for fanny packs in medicine.

Don’t miss the next Fashion Police: Hospital Edition, as they will give the final word on bow ties.
