MRI Broken, Intern Forced to Hold Giant, Oversized Magnet

BOSTON, MA – The MRI machine at Massachusetts General Hospital broke down today.  “We were really at a loss without an MRI in a major hospital!” Dr. Ruthaford told reporters.  “Luckily we were saved by an intern, Dr. Kurt Kelsy.”

Kelsy, a brand new doctor, was forced to hold a giant, oversized magnet over the patients to get the scan they needed.  “That’s all the MRI is, one giant magnet,” Dr. Kelsy told his classmates proudly.

“The skeptics said this wouldn’t work,” Ruthaford told the intern class.  “But how do you think they got MRIs in the olden days?  The horse-drawn MRI would go from town to town and someone would hold the giant magnet while the villagers had their brain MRIs or spine MRIs.”

Unfortunately the intern was sent to the ER when another intern accidentally wheeled in a hospital gurney into Zone 4.  The bed flung through the air and subsequently crushed Dr. Kelsy.
