PHILADELPHIA- In just her second week of Internal Medicine Residency at the University Hospital, Dr. Jamie Jones was upset yesterday with the way her attending, Dr. David White, was managing Diabetic Ketoacidosis.

“It’s just not how I’m used to treating this disease,” explained Jones, who just completed Medical School in Philadelphia last month. “Back at the community hospital where I did my medical rotations, we would treat DKA differently, and I’m concerned about my attending’s regimen.”

Dr. White, who is now in his 30th year of practice, and recipient of the prestigious Medicine Standout award, and tenured Professor of Medicine at the affiliate University, was confused about Jones’ behavior during rounds. “She was silent, and appeared angry for most of our rounds”, said White. “I hope she can come back well rested tomorrow.”

Dr. Jones hopes that in the future more attendings would recognize and appreciate her knowledge and experience. “I just know there are certain ways to do things, I only wish my attendings would listen.”

It is not clear how rounds will go tomorrow, or how the patient will fare, but Jones is anxious to see how well the treatment regimen didn’t work.
