NEW YORK, NY – In response to updated duty hour regulations, The Good Hospital implemented mandatory lunch breaks for residents.
“At first, I kept staring at my pager while I ate. But I’ve gotten better. Seeing the sun helps,” one resident remarked. “I didn’t even know there was a place to sit in Chipotle.”
Ruby Ella basked in her light white coat. “I threw out my vending machine snacks. Now my hands can fit in my pockets!”
Some residents were confused. Was this additional time to make follow up appointments, fax discharge summaries, and perform other tasks outside of their job description? Or should they use the bathroom without fear of missing a page?
Other residents shared their skepticism.
“I don’t really understand the point of this,” Rose Ola said. “I couldn’t log on to the EMR from The Good Coffee Shop, so I went back to the charting room.”
