NAPLES, FL – A recent phenomenon in an operating room (OR) at Mary Mother Hospital has caught quite the buzz. Dr. Roger Messi was going about his daily routine performing his third surgery when he noticed things were not quite in the right place. Reprimanding his surgical tech, he quickly found out that his mother, Netti, was fed up with the mess he left behind.
“Your scrubs are always stained, your gloves full of blood, and you have to cover your hair to keep it clean!” Netti was overheard telling her son. “I don’t understand why you look like you’ve been digging around in a bloody mess all day. And this room! It’s a pig sty!”
What started as a way to help her son, turned out to be a full-force cleaning of every square inch of his work space. Wiping the instruments, vacuuming the floor, and even cleansing the outer edges of a patient’s skin during a procedure were just some of the ways Dr. Messi’s mom cleaned up.
“At first it was super frustrating, I mean, I’m a grown man! I have staff do the cleaning for me, I don’t need my mom,” Dr. Messi told Gomerblog. “But then I realized how nice it really is to have her cleaning up behind my every move. I know she’ll clean it so well we don’t need to use the autoclave anymore.”
Just as Gomerblog was leaving the OR, we overheard Dr. Messi ask for his scalpel. ”Mom, I wasn’t quite done with that yet, can you wait until I leave to finish cleaning up instead of cleaning up around me?”
Doctors everywhere, just like Dr. Messi, are thankful to the moms that have gotten them to where they are, especially cleaning up after them along the way.
Happy Mother’s Day from Gomerblog!!
