Hospitalist Has Turned On ‘Out of Office’ Reply Permanently

HARTFORD, CT – Dr. Paul Tanzwicki, a new hospitalist at Upper West Medical Center, was excited to turn his out of office reply on his email.

“I worked as a primary care doctor and internist for six-years before transitioning to becoming a hospitalist,” Dr. Tanzwicki told the information technology (IT) officials at his hospital.  “For years I would turn the ‘out of office’ response on when I would be on vacation but still usually read and responded to emails.”

He added later: “Today, after a week as a hospitalist I proudly turned my ‘out of office response’ on permanently.”

Tanzwick shared his response with his IT team and after checking with seven hospital administrators and two patient advocates they approved it:

“I am out of the office today.  As a hospitalist, I don’t really have an office.  Thus, if you are trying to find me, particularly after my shift ends, good luck, I have no reason to respond.  I also rarely answer pages or text messages either.”
